Keep fighting the good fight...
Apparently, the administration has seemingly saved their hides and will continue to pull exorbitant salaries while "running" their school... (Reminder: their salaries represent 10% of the school's operating budget. Who needs a library, or a computer lab, or hall monitors, or...)
We wonder who the administration is going to hire to monitor the students' comments on myspace.com. ( I suppose that the administration's lap dog parent can continue with this job. Nice work VAPAC, way to squash free speech!!!)...
Still having problems getting transcripts or services from the school, call the district, they really seem to care about you, your students, and your taxpayer dollars... ( If you need contact information to complain, see the comments section of the previous post.)
This just in... we have it on good authority that Fox is gone. Supporting this -- a recently posted job opening for a stagecraft teacher at VAPAC on the SCUSD website. With Kapp and Fox rounding out the trio of Siegert, Melcher, and Spilman, we have heard grumbling that some students are worried for their safety...
Big news: The district has to keep their word and build a new high school in the former Sacramento High School attendance area. Some board members are attempting to go back on the deal that they offered in the settlement of the lawsuit against the district over the closure of Sacramento High, and the Sacramento Bee, once again weighing in on something that they seem to know very little about or are at least willing to forfeit any pretense of objectivity, has thrown their support, no surprise here, to St. Hope... ( Message to the Bee -- while you implore the SCUSD to "stay the course" with their small school reforms, have you noticed that (a) America's Choice has no home, (b) The MET has no home and attempted to kick the Success Academy out of their home, (c) the board says that they have no money to build a new Sacramento High School, so we assume that they have no money to sustain any more growth of the small school nature, (d) VAPAC is a mess, etc...)
Speaking of St. HOPE, principal of the school of arts, Allen Young, has resigned "effective immediately." No word on the reason for that move but for info about St. HOPE from a student's perspective, go here:

So, random thought here, but, does it seem odd, that the DLC's just bought a BRAND NEW MERCEDES BENZ SEDAN, for themselves( $50,000 car!), yet the school is forever in need of $$$ for things?
This just isn't right...
Any thoughts from you guys?
What should you expect from 2 people who are nothing but dishonest creeps. They are poor excuses of human beings.
I think we need to add the "Lapdog" to the wanted poster.
Just a thought.
The meeting with the district and the DLC's has NOT happened yet due to various vacations. In fact to my knowledge the meeting has not yet been scheduled but should happen within the next 10 days or so.
My view of the DLC's is that they (especially the mother) are control freaks and are not willing to listen to others that disagree with them. So they are unable to learn anything. Nor are they willing to share control. This causes them to have to do even more work which allows them to become martyers (in their own minds). This is also a problem because they didn't have the administrative experience to run the school. They end up spending too much of their time with minor issues and not concentrating their efforts on the things that do matter. This is typical of people that are in over their heads, this would be less of a problem if they were willing to listen to others.
What they are good at is sales. Unfortunately, education depends on good teachers which they are driving away with their methods. Also high school students are less inclined to be 'controlled' as they begin to seek out who they are for themselves. Which will lead to other problems without teachers like Kapp, Siegert, Spillman and Melchor around to help create a buffer between students and the DLC's.
I reported earlier that Mr. Fox was leaving based on an usual reliable source. Since that time I was informed by a teacher that he had called Mr. Fox and he denied that he was leaving. Although it has been pointed out at this site that others believe he is leaving. I would put Mr. Fox in the above group of teachers who can work as a buffer between students and the DLC's, if he goes I don't know who will be able to fill that role.
At this point I encourage complaints be directed to the State Dept of Ed. I know they have expressed concern regarding a number of issues at VAPAC.
Another avenue is to begin filing complaints and concerns with WASC. There is a process to do so on their website. Just google "Western Association of Schools and Colleges". They listen seriously to what parents have to say.
I'm going to Sac High now. It's so not the same as it once was, but it's WAY better than VAPAC is now. I'm enjoying myself and my classes at the school. The work load is hard, but I can handle it. And I stress to anyone's kids that CAN handle a heavy work load to go to Sac High. The school year started on August 1st, but check and see if you can get in.
The reason Allen Young retired is because of his health. His doctor thought it best for him and his family if he left the school. Last year he was having health problems from all of the stress, and so he does not wish to endanger himself or cause any needless distress for anyone else.
Ms. Laura Knight took over the possition and she is very capable of doing the job and she's a wonderful educator and a great person. There's no doubt in my mind that she can handle the job just as well, if not better, than Mr. Young.
Joey,
Glad to hear that things are going well for you at St Hope, please keep us informed on your experience there.
You didn't mention anything about the school uniforms at St Hope. Is it in force? How is it working out?
Last year Principal Young became ill with a rare syndrome called Stevens Johnson (no relation to Kevin). He was hospitalized for nearly three weeks. It was due to a severe allergic reaction to medication he was prescribed.
As principal he worked tirelessly to ensure that the visual and performing arts stayed vital at Sac High. Because of his leadership there are a wide array of offerings ranging from dance, drama, advanced art, Ballet Folklorico, ceramics and photo. Also offered are creative writing, film studies (in the spring), humanities as well as the core curriculum you would expect at any college prep school.
During the last two years the Mondavi Center and the Sac Philharmonic worked with the students in various master classes which included Alvin Ailey, Nena Freelorn and Michael Morgan. Other guests included Jackie Greene, Mick Martin, Todd Roper (formerly of the band Cake) and many more.
Art shows celebrating 2D and 3D works from Sac High students were shown at the Crocker, the Brick House, 40 Acres and the SMUD galleries to name a few. There was also a much celebrated photo show that was featured in the Sacramento Bee called "A Day in the Life of Oak Park".
Principal Young is a Sac High, as well as VAPAC, graduate as well as former Sac High teacher. He preserved Sac High arts traditions such as the fall play and the spring musical as well as adding new courses in many areas of the arts.
He has moved on to the Natomas Unified School District where he will be a principal of a K-8 school. He is also involved in a commission to turn around failing schools in California.
We wish him well. He not only got the job done but he put a smile on everyone's face. His rapport with the students and staff was awesome. I wish he would take over VAPAC!
I wish Mr. Young would take over VAPAC too.
But anyway. About the uniforms, they are in effect and they aren't so bad. I don't mind them too much. It's just that I had to buy three shirts and I'm only going to be there for three months. So it was sort of a waste of money for me. It could be worse. It could be run like VAPAC with uniforms. I keep telling everyone that complains about them that I've had to deal with worse.
They have a class called Avisory and it's required. It's a really good class. Seniors get to do a lot of college stuff and learn about registering and things like that. It's rather enjoyable. In fact, I'm on a field trip right now to the library to apply for universities.
So I have to go now and join the rest of my class. I'll keep informing everyone of what they want to know.

is Mr Young really gonna take over VAPAC?
Allen Young can suck a choad. He is possibly the most worthless teacher I have ever had, and definately the laziest English teacher I've ever had. He doesn't make any corrections to essays; if it's turned in it's more than likely an 'A' paper. Not to mention he was a pompous Orwellian ass when he up and left classes midsemester in 2003, only to have his grotesquely swollen head inflate further in 2004 with the new job promotion finally in place.
However, I can't say that I mind him in an administrative postion because now he is no longer in the front of a class room screwing over college-hopefuls by letting poor study habits and lazy essays win out. He couldn't possibly be worse than the DLC's, but after watching him handle the St Hope transition with similar DLC-style arrogence I can't forgive him for abandoning his students in a time of need. He left us to the sharks.
A choad?! Your command of the English language should be commended. You either never had Mr. Young as teacher or you are simply too thick in the head to have benefited. I have an idea-grow up. Another thought would be to possibly think before you type.
Mr. Young stayed at Sac High when almost everyone left. He stayed and the school forever is better for it. As for his teaching ablilities I know he was effective because I had him for 11AP. I also had him when he ran the X Ray. He was challenging as well as fun. I should be so lucky to have a teacher that matches his dedication and devotion to the craft of teaching and positive rapport with students.
OBEY YOUNG!
You're the choad!
Young rules! He was the best person on that campus.
OBEY indeed!
When did he stop working there? What happend?
We saw Principal Young at the Chalk It Up thingy. He looked fine.
I wish he would come back.
Mr. Carroll left. That Suxxx!
Did anyone read the article on Friday. ISn't MRs. Knight doing a good job? Why is everyone leaving the School of Arts?
