Why Not???
It seems that for some time this district has been heading downhill. And I'm not talking about test scores. So much has happened in the last 5 years that it's hard to fathom what exactly has happened. However, I believe that it is safe to say that for a large part, this district has been mismanaged into chaos and that chaos is reflected in unmanageable school environments, administrative incompetence, questionable teacher effectiveness, and difficult student behaviors and attitudes.
Unfortunately, it would be too difficult and time consuming to recount all of the egregious acts of this district. Needless to say the Sacramento High School debacle and the CASA fiasco are only the tip of the iceberg. But since we have to start somewhere, how about the wave of charters currently operating and being created in the district. Or how about testing since it's testing time. Or maybe the effects of Small Learning Communities (SLC) on student choice. Or district oversight on many of the projects they initiate...

I am a parent who has taken both my children out of VAPAC. The director has no concern for our children and is more concerned in showing off what she feels is HER SCHOOL. My children were not safe nor were they learning in the overcrowded class rooms. GET HER OUT!!!!!! She is alful and doesn't care for the children.....She also doesn't care or give ANY teacher her support. Of course what can we expect from someone who over sees her own reviews.
I have done a little investigation of my own, and have come up with several disturbing questions that seem to have no answers. Why is there no principal or vice-principal? Why is there no site advisory cousel? What has Title-1 money been spent on? Why are there no design teams? No one seems to know. When is the last time VAPAC's board met? No one seems to know this either. I have heard that the co-director, Mr. De La Questa does not even have an educational background. If anyone has answers to these questions, please feel free to email me.

You shouldn't just focus on VAPAC. What about Sacramento Charter High School? What about Genesis High School? What about all the other charters that SCUSD has approved? Sacramento Charter High School gets "hands-off" treatment from the SCUSD school board and the media because Kevin Johnson is a political favorite. Never mind the violence, the destruction of public property, and the mysterious transfer of students to other schools just prior to testing. Really, VAPAC's $500,000 is just a drop in the bucket of subsidies that charters have received from SCUSD. America's Choice and the MET have been given subsidies by SCUSD because those programs don't have enough students to stay in the black. SCUSD has allocated 14 million in Bond funds to build a High School for America's Choice which has an enrollment of 160 students. It has already spent thousands of dollars on rent for that program because it still hasn't built a permanent facility for it. 14 million in Bond funds. How's that for equity? Face it, the problem with ALL charter schools is accountablility. The problem with SCUSD is that it doesn't want to take responsibility for the mess it has created. SCUSD can fix the mess at VAPAC if it wants to. Demand that they fix it, not shut it down. Remove and replace the administrators if necessary.
I am a student at VAPAC and the administrator does not deserve to be here she doesn't give a hoot about the students! When I walk by her in the hallway she says that i don't dress appropiate, and she always complains about how my hair is when I died it a natural color. I have seen her favortise other students and I've seen her treat kids that she does not like very much and I thought that was rude. She trys to ignore the fact that she has special ed students. Because of her I am leaving this school next year. I do think that this would be a better school if there were different administrators!
i am a student at Christian Brothers High School. My brother goes to Vapac, and i think that it is crazy that the new dress code that vapac is trying to enforce is just about as strict as the dress code at my PRIVATE, CATHOLIC high school. anyways, just a random observation by me.
Someone said something about America's Choice well at least they are teaching the children going there and they have control of any conflicts and REALLY care about the children not themselves like De La Questa pair at VAPAC. I have had my child at America's Choice and VAPAC and America's Choice is far better in every area of education and administration than VAPAC. Ms. De La Questa is not qualified to run VAPAC. Get rid of the De La Questa pair and get someone to run VAPAC wh know what they are doing.
I am a student at VAPAC and I was in a class that a guy presented his senior project on Bullying. During his presentation I thought about the bully situation on the VAPAC campus. My conclusion is that Mrs. De La Questa is the major bully to students and teachers at our school. Bullies have problems. I really believe she is a nut case! Actually a lot of students thinks she is not safe to be around. What kind of a relationship does she really have with her son. I think she is a very sick person. She needs to go.
WHAT ABOUT SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS AT VAPAC? THEY ARE LAST ON THE LIST FOR ANYTHING. THEIR I.E.P.'S ARE NOT ALWAYS FOLLOWED. ISN'T THIS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW?
If I'm not mistaken, the DLC's were in Shrek 2. Wasn't she the Fairy Godmother and he was Prince Charming??
Don't just pick on VAPAC. sacramento charter high school is the root of the problem and not to be ignored. All these special interest little charters are causing a huge problem for this mixed up poorly organized and managed district!
i will pick on vapac, because it is personal..... But you do have a point about other charter schools in the district.... the only difference is that vapac has a corrupt, dirty, twisted, evil, psychotic, immature, self-centered, egotistical, manipulative, lying, overbearing, conceited, arrogant, condescending director.
You forgot...not very bright. The director demonstrates that she has some limitations in the IQ ballpark. She is wound tightly with a hoard of mental health issues and her light bulb is rather dull. (Just another observation) I think someone will come soon and gift her with a little white jacket that ties in the back and escourt her to a nice padded hotel room..

I'm a student at VAPAC and it is ridiculous how the "administrater" treats some of the students she has favortism.Also I would like to address the money issue we haven't seen a dime put into anything! I wanna know where all that money went.....or could it be that they used that money for those nice black mercedes out in the parking lot?
