"An after school meeting today announced the removal of Arbatel de la Cuesta from his position at VAPAC, as well as the current office manager. Allen Young was instated as the current prinicipal. The meeting was held by the district and included district and union representatives. Many were surprised by the current action. A district auditor was also assigned to the school.
The state of the current charter revisions remains unclear. I have a copy of several pages that contain key changes to the charter. I can post these revisions if anyone wants to see them. The revisions make all staff VAPAC employees with an unclear retirement plan and no stated health benefits. If the school board approves the charter, the de la Cuestas will return with unchecked power.
A parent meeting will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, March 1) to inform parents of the district staffing changes. I believe the start time is 6:30pm. I urge all parents to show up and have their voices heard. And remember, your child's happiness is not necessarily a sign of a quality education. "
The position of this blog has never wavered and remains unchanged -- This move was necessary and should have been made much sooner. We only hope that both of the DLC's have been removed from their employment with the district as well. Granting any charter revisions that return either DLC to a decision making position at any school would be disastrous. Perhaps now the promise that is the school VAPAC can become a reality.
The naming of Allen Young as principal is an interesting turn of events. A VAPAC student from the 80's, a former Sacramento High School teacher gone St. HOPE who, unhappy and critical of St. HOPE's program, departed to Natomas , Mr. Young brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. However, the challenge at VAPAC will be enormous. But it can and must be done.

Mr. Young is back and working with Stratton and the gang. That's rad. I can't believe they won't let the district in...don't they (the De La Questas) have the SCUSD stamp on their paychecks. Why couldn't they just leave and let someone who knowswhat they're doing take over.
They dropped the ball and now they are screwing with the future of VAPAC. I hope this transition doesn't scare too mant students, staff and parents.
We can't go back to St Hope. What does Laura Knight know about art anyways? I heard she's one in a loong line of KJ swilling Kool Aid drinkers.
No thanks.
