So... How Was Your 1st Day?
With the general scattering of students throughout the district, some of whom are regulars readers of this site (or have parents who are), tell us, what school do you (or does your child) attend and how was the first day? Or perhaps you are a teacher who changed schools -- What was your first day like?

OH MY GOD!!!!
It feels soooooooooooo good to be in a school with real Admin!!! I was amazed at how smooth the first day of school went. Real admin, real teachers, real books and even lots of material. AND A BUDGET!!! The kids were happy and no one was bitching about anything. It felt great!
I received a number of calls throughout the day from some students who are still at VAPAC. Sounds like things haven't changed. Schedules are wrong, no supervision and lots of frowning adults and kids. Many of the same issues as last year. Sounds like there is a good size group of parents who are going to the district to file complaints already. Sounds like the parent power to get rid of the "Mother" and "Mother's Little helper" is starting early in the year. We'll see what happens.
well i left vapac and am at a new school but please anyone tell me is there a school out there were there is super vision and students that are good people. please answer me because i am losing faith
the only reason the first day was okay for me is because i got to see all my friends.
my schedule is messed up.
i got most of the classes i wanted but they stuck me in raido ROP, i dont even reach the age limit.(i didnt sign up for that)
they have me in two PE classes and no english class.
and english 9 is a must have for me.
so, whoever made my schedule must be retarded.
anyways, overall the first day was okay, i didnt get harassed by the pricipal(director?,whatever.) and um the other thing, there isnt a door for the bathroom anymore? whats up with that?

HAHAHA!!! I noticed that when I went to get my transcripts, which, by the way, were ALL SCREWED UP! Big suprise huh? I can't believe they had someone from the outside come in and do them. Could they have messed up anymore? God, if I don't graduate on time because those bastards screwed me over, I will press charges on the terms of destroying my future.
Please, more people talk about their first days. I've already told about how much I like Sac High... though it's not the same anymore.

I'm sorry... but I'm one of the only people who leaves their name. I would like to know some other people on here if they aren't saying things too incriminating.
I know it's your right to choose to be anonymous, and I understand all of those who are putting up this blog, but some of the posters could use thir names, or at least nicknames.

ahhh, to be in college...so much better than anything i've ever experienced in the SCUSD. my first day was over a month ago, but gloating is always fun ^_^
As a teacher who had no choice but return to VAPAC, I have some concerns. Credentialed teachers are lacking. Up to date text books are lacking. Most of the text books are not state aligned. This will hinder performance on testing. (And it will not be the kids or teachers fault.) We have no budget that we know of. I see no changes from last year in the leadership, except for move people to cover for the dlcs so they can do less (if that's possible). The quality of education is far worse than last year. The teachers who were mentor teachers are gone and we have no one to get any professional advice from. Benitas is just another lap dog and no clue about teaching or intervention or anything that is helpful. The new teachers have no idea how to run a classroom or teach anything. I need out of here to save my career I think. I really don't want to put VAPAC on my resume. So that's how things are going.
My daughter heard a rumor that Benitas may be dating one of the DLC's?
re: Benitas, I don't know if she is dating a DLC or not but she only had a single subject emergency credential last year and isn't listed by the SCUSD as a teacher this year according to a source that I have. How she can be the teacher rep on the VAPAC Board is beyond me, not to mention teaching classes. From what I heard, Arbtel took over her French class for at least one day which he isn't qualified to teach.
"The Son" has no qualifications in any area in any profession or vocation.
Sac City Associate Superintendent Susan Miller is the person to whom parents or anyone else should address their concerns about teachers and administrators. Susan Miller is supposed to be evaluating the Director. Part of the Director's duties is to interview and hire teachers, deal with textbooks, etc. The Director is supposed to be running the school. Copies of all emails to Ms. Miller should be sent to Amari Watkins (Charter Oversight) and anything to do with personnel should be sent to Carol Mignone (Human Resources)as well.
Susan Miller's email is: susanmi@sac-city.k12.ca.us
Amari Watkins' email is: amari-watkins@sac-city.k12.ca.us
Carol Mignone's email is:
carolm@sac-city.k12.ca.us
If any of these email addresses turn out to be wrong check with Sac City Unified's information line: (916)643-7400.
I can't allow my child to stay at this school. The academic content is very poor quality. My kid wants a shot at college. If I keep him here he won't have the academic background. A large number of parents have this concern. I will take my concerns to the district and the State Dept of Ed. I'm not happy about my tax dollars supporting such a poor program.
Seems like the District Office is having to step in to ensure legally mandated tasks are addressed. Last week parents were communicated with (by phone calls from the District Office) and assured that last years CAHSEE results were mailed home. If they were not received by a certain date, they were asked to notify the District Office ASAP. The majority of students had not yet received them. Transcripts have also become an unresolved issue. Requested transcripts still have not been delivered with the correct information. Students permanent school records are missing and/or information has been purged from them. Several returning and new staff members reported tat the DLC's were "Very Busy" shredding information from student files over the summer. Information such as past SARB and SART info from their previous school, Reports dealing with dicipline, 504 plans, Student study information and Special Education information. This is all the info that "The Mother" considers to make a student "Dirty". I can't find anywhere in Ed Law or Educational practices or even in the Charter where "The Mothers" form of exercism is an approved practice. Wow, maybe it's a new practice that has just slipped into ED Policy that noboby is aware of yet.
Anon 14, Could you explain more fully the comment "This is all the info that "The Mother" considers to make a student 'Dirty'".What does the Mother mean by Dirty? Are these students she is trying to get rid of?
"The Mother" actually coined this phrase during her stay at LDV. A student who is a dicipline issue; struggles academically; is on welfare; black; is a special education student; speaks up for themselves or has parents who challenge her lack of ethics - Is "Dirty" Or is not worthy of attending a school which she is part of. I have noticed that she is transitioning the term "dirty" for "Bad". However several of her staff are reporting that she is using "dirty" again. She hasn't caught on yet that a few remaining and several new staff that she has trusted to express her philosophies with are actually documenting everything she and "the little son" do, don't do but should, say, and the general unsupervised chaos on that campus. Anyway the signs of a very mentally unstable woman has become even more pronounced this year.
For all parents and students: please know that the district must have copies of IEP's and 504's in the student file with Special Ed department at the Serna Center. Also if there is a question as to what the last IEP states, the district must follow the last signed IEP. Also you can request an IEP at any time. There is a process that is outlined in the ed code. I am an advocate in education with a focus on Special Ed. and bilingual issues. As for your budget contact Sue Norwood and ask for a copy of the budget for last year and compare it to this year. Also ask for a copy of your school plan and Charter. Read them with a highlighter in hand. I have much more to share, just ask and never, never, ever give up.
Yes, copies of IEPs are at the district office but 504 plans and sart documentation and dicipline info are not at the DO. SARB info will be at the hearing office IF the student actually had a hearing.
The Mother has been removed from VAPAC as of last Thursday (9/29), A VAPAC Board meeting was held the next evening but I was unable to attend.
Does anyone have more information about what is going on?
Mrs. DLC has been placed on administrative leave by the district. There will be an emergency meeting open to all at the school on Oct. 4th @ 6:30pm in the cafeteria in regards to the districts decision. I expect the meeting is hoping to be in favor of keeping the mother, but this is an oportunity for all to come out and make their opinions known.
Just let me know when to start singing Ding Dong the witch is dead!
